Kenpo is a self-defense system characterized by fast explosions of multiple strikes delivered to multiple targets. Kenpo Karate does not so much teach a set of standard responses to a set of limited scenarios, but rather teaches a set of principles that can be applied in any situation.
A simple translation of Kenpo Karate would be “Law of the Fist and Empty Hand”. Kenpo is a comprehensive system of modern self-defense. It is a deliberate and scientific take on modern self-defense.
Kenpo Karate utilizes striking combinations and Jujutsu to control an attacker. Kenpo as taught at Bluegrass Martial Arts is an adjusted version of the American and Traditional Kenpo Systems. There is greater emphasis on restraining an opponent, and targets are adjusted to be appropriate for a family friendly setting.
Purchase as many 30 Minute Time Slots as you like, and use that time to learn the Kenpo Karate system, or Invest it in learning the Bluegrass Martial Arts Kickboxing, Jiu-Jitsu, or Weapons material.
Your Time can also be Shared with other Family Members, or a Friend if you wish. Split the cost, or don’t, its completely up to you.
EVERY Private lesson will give you a good workout of Target Drills, Kicking the Shield and Punching on the Mitts. You will gain strength and lose some weight, but our focus is helping you learn the Kenpo Karate System Safe and Fun, One on One!

Our Self-Defense program is based on decades of research and development in the real world.
Our students learn simple but practical skills to first avoid, but then to quickly eliminate any threat you might encounter on the street.
You’ll feel more confident armed with the knowledge that you can handle any situation you might be confronted with.
Our Self-Defense program covers every component of self-defense and fitness. You will improve cardio, strength, agility, flexibility, and endurance through our classes. There is no other workout that is so complete and engaging!
It truly is a total body workout.
One of the best parts of our program is that every student is treated as an individual, and will progress at their own rate.
Each student’s progress isn’t measured against other students, but rather against their own previous performance.
So, even students that aren’t as physically fit as the star quarterback of a football team can have a wonderful experience in our program and become stronger, fitter, and more flexible.
The great thing about our program is that everyone is treated as an individual.
We have students as young as 3 or 4, and as old as 94!
